Urgent: Clients may receive fraudulent emails that appear to be from Schwab
We're currently responding to a large-scale phishing attempt in which clients are receiving emails that appear to be sent by Schwab's fraud and security departments. The email provides a link to a legitimate-looking Schwab website and prompts clients to provide personal information and a copy of their government-issued ID. We have seen several variations of the email. Schwab would never ask clients to provide information by email.
The communications are not from Schwab. We are diligently working to have all linked websites shut down immediately.

What to do

If your client receives one of these emails:
  1. Advise them NOT to click links within the email and NOT to provide any personal information.
  2. Have your client forward you a copy of the email as an attachment, if possible.
For your firm:
  1. Immediately inform your staff about this current phishing attack.
  2. Attach the suspicious email to a new email (do not forward) and send it to your service team. After sending a copy, delete these emails.
  3. Contact your service team to escalate if your client provided their personal information or if you have questions.
